About Us
KVIK is an Associated Students program providing students first hand experience with the various aspects of video and television production.
Our Mission Statement
The purpose of KVIK is to create and maintain broadcast television programs to showcase the work of WWU students and faculty. KVIK seeks to provide first-hand experience for those interested in the fields of television broadcasting and video production. KVIK productions represent student's original work and serve the Associated Students and the broader community by providing interesting, informative, and entertaining media.
What Does KVIK Produce?
We produce a variety of programming that fall under news, sports, entertainment, promotion, and special events. A complete list of our shows can be found under programming.
How Can I Get Involved?
We have many open positions available and encourage all Western students and faculty members to become a part of the team. It is not necessary to be a student in order to volunteer. However, as KVIK is an activity of the Associated Students of Western Washington University, priority is given to WWU students.
We have opportunities for all levels of commitment; whether you want to operate a camera, be the talent in front of a camera, gain skills as an intern, or be the mastermind behind the next television phenomenon. Click on link "Get Involved" to see a list of all we have to offer. No experience is necessary, so don't be shy, find out what KVIK can do for you.
I Have a Great Idea for a Show, What Should I Do?
We are always eager to experiment with new ideas, and encourage you to fill out a show submission form and contact us if you have something in mind.
How Do I Access KVIK?
KVIK programming can be accessed on closed circuit campus channel 16 and on the web. Visit our calendar for a complete schedule of program listings. You can also stream selected clips and purchase DVDs of our shows. For more information, check out our where to watch section. What Will KVIK Do For Me?
If you would like a career in television, video production, marketing or advertising, KVIK is an excellent way to build up your resume and gain experience. We teach networking skills by placing members in real life production situations and have them interact with clients and other professionals in the field. This familiarity is critical to success in the film and television industry. Everyone is involved in both the pre and post production process, which gives members a sense of what really happens behind the scenes.
How Was KVIK Formed?
KVIK began when Phil Shuyler and David Lohnes created the Western Television Broadcasting Club (WTBC) in February 2002. By June of 2003, the WTBC was granted Associated Students program status along with the new title of KVIK.
Note: Our programming is restricted by the rules and regulations stated in KVIK's Code of Conduct, as well as the Associated Student, Western Washington University and The Federal Communications Committee Policies and Procedures.
